The Tie Dye Sweatshirt You Won't Expect

Tie dye has been around for about 50 years, most notably in the 1970's era of "peace, love & happiness". Check out this beautiful picture of Priscilla Presley wearing her own version (left). What a time to be alive. I always wonder what it was like. As a kid, one of my favorite Halloween costumes was dressing up as a hippie in 4th grade. The vibrant colors and paisley prints were indeed a statement. Since then, my aesthetic taste has tamed, probably for the better.

In 2020, tie dye made a comeback. As you know, fashion always cycles. Between this and 90's nostalgia, we've seen a variety in the past year. Being a 90's baby, I'm less interested in low-rise bootcuts and more interested in the tie dye, though. I wanted to be a part of the fun without getting too trendy. I've searched high and low for the right thing for my closet. I was SHOCKED to find what I was after in the men's department at Nordstrom.

Nordstrom carries the brand Topman (the women's/junior's counterpart being Topshop), usually geared towards the younger guys. I find that the brand usually runs slimmer so when finding something I loved, I knew I could make it work. This sweatshirt is subdued in coloring and priced at $50. Throw it with jeans or leggings and add a cute sneaker. Boom! Easy outfitting with your tie dye sweatshirt.

My biggest takeaway from this buy? Never limit yourself to the section you think you're supposed to shop in. Get creative and think outside of your box.

Happy retail therapy!
