Welcome Devin!
Hello Friends! I'm Devin and I am the new Wardrobe Consultant! I wanted to introduce myself so here are some questions that will give you a look into who I am!
1. Tell us a brief description of you; where you grew up, your family, what you like to do in your free time, etc.
I’m Devin! I graduated from the University of Iowa in 2017 with a degree in Enterprise Leadership. I grew up in Mendota Heights, Minnesota and moved back here right after college. I am super close to my family! I have two older sisters and are super close in age! I'm 24, the middle sister is 25 and the oldest is 27. My parents mostly live in Philadelphia, as my mom’s work is there, but they come home very often. As for my sisters, they also live in different states and come home when they can. Before joining Á La Mode, I worked at Nordstrom for almost 2.5 years. In my free time, you can normally find me lounging on the couch with my dog, Mack watching The Office! I am a huge fan of The Office and have seen it from start to finish at least 30 times. Otherwise, you can find me at the mall shopping or hanging out with friends.
2. How did your path cross with A La Mode?
This is a funny story actually! In Fall 2018, I decided that I wanted to have my own personal shopping business. As I was researching other personal shoppers in the area, I came across Á La Mode. I decided that I wanted to learn how they operated so I hired Carly to take me shopping! I was BLOWN AWAY by how Carly worked, so much so that at the end of our shopping spree, I remember asking her for a job! She said no, unfortunately. After months of trying to figure out how I could make my business work when Á La Mode was my competitor and reminiscing about my shopping trip with Carly, I decided to reach back out to Carly to see if she had any opportunities for me, which she did!
3. Have you always enjoyed clothes?
Yes! Clothes have been a huge part of my life since I can remember. I did go through a stage in 4th grade where I didn’t care and became a tomboy and wore matching tracksuits, but then I remembered my passion of clothes and ditched that look!
4. What is your earliest fashion memory?
My earliest fashion memory is an outfit that my parents put me in. It was this sleeveless dark purple dress that had a burnt orange, olive green, and yellow flower embellishment on it and it came with an olive green long sleeve tee with burnt orange fuzzy cuffs to wear underneath it. My sister had another dress that went with my outfit so we matched but it was still different! I remember loving that outfit! I also remember for my birthday one year I got this AMAZING pink princess dress!
5. Do you have a specific style(s)?
I would say that my style is trendy, edgy, and boho. I would probably say it’s more edgy than boho but I can’t resist Free People! As for the edginess, it's definitely more of a trendy edgy so like leather jackets, leather pants and skirts, cool booties, animal prints, lots of black, etc., and not like the goth type of edgy.
6. What pieces are your general go-to's?
My go-to pieces are skinny jeans, a graphic tee, a leather jacket, booties, and sneakers. I think these are staples for every persons closet.
7. What store never fails you?
Zara never fails me! They have so many different styles of clothes that are usually somewhat cheap, so I make sure I always go there when I go shopping for myself!
8. What do you hope is in store for the future of fashion?
My hope for the future of fashion is for fast fashion brands to become more environmentally friendly while still maintaining an affordable price tag. I love fast fashion because I have a trendy style and I don’t want to break the bank for something that will be out of style quickly but I always have buyer’s remorse when purchasing it because I know that it’s horrible for the environment. Hopefully, one day, my hope can come true!
